Site for Body and Mind

I have found WebMD to be a helpful site in learning about the body and mind. Though it isn't written daily, it is one of the more interesting blogs to read is Men's Health Office by Dr. Marks. They also have interesting arcticles such as the history of medical treatments, and on family and couple issues.

A Pre-marital Counseling Program

Yesterday, I attended a Prepare and Enrich workshop. Prepare and Enrich is a tool to help pastors, therapists, and anyone else who wants to help couple get ready for marriage. The program is not designed for a couple therapy. Rather the program consists of exercises where couples can discover each other's perceptions and expectations. However, if there is a need for the couple or a person in the relationship to seek therapy - such as sex abuse as a child, or sex addiction - then it is wise to refer them to see a specialist, while also taking the program.

The program is also designed for married couples. I spoke with the therapist who led the workshop and he explained that he uses it as an assessment tool, and if they need therapy, he will stop the program and will use his trained expertise in family and marital therapy to help the couple.

In the end, the Prepare and Enrich program is not a therapy program. Instead it is to help high functioning pre-marital couples and married couples with mild issues help improve their life together. If more serious issues arise, then it is facilitators responsibility to know if they have the knowledge and energy to take of the couple.

Nutrition for Runners

This is the second article I have read that promotes runners to drink caffeine, including coffee, as it helps speed up recovery.

Ways to Healthy Marriage

Again, it has been awhile since I have written in the blog. My wife and I have been super busy with school and work. Nevertheless, I here is a new entry. I have ran into a couple interesting articles (here and here) from WebMD. I have only looked at the headings, but they seem interesting and for the most part helpful in developing a healthy marriage.

A Training Log

A few weeks ago, I discovered The Running Training Log developed by Runner's World magazine. The training log, includes keeping tabs on how many miles a person has ran on their shoes, and creating routes. Besides documenting the running process, a runner can also keep tabs on other entries such as strength training, biking, and walking.

The New RefTagger by Logos

I was surfing the net this morning and I became sidetracked with this new format from Logos. It is the RefTagger - look at this article first to get started. It took a couple of hours to get everything figured out, but it is a great tool to have on a website or blog. It will also more likely get a person to look at the source because it is only a click away.

The RefTagger mainly does two things. First it is able to help link Bible verses to BibleGateway and to the Libronix program, if the person has it (e.g. Romans 12.1-2). Secondly, the author can maually link to the resources, if the reader has the Libronix program and the resource (e.g. Life and Teaching of Jesus Christ in The New Bible Dictionary (3rd ed.).

More Thoughts on E-Books

Over the past couple of years, I have become a fan of e-books - as I already wrote about the advantages and disadvantages on e-books. My view now is that if the book is not currently on e-book form and is not free or cheap, it seems better to borrow the book from the library and wait for the electronic edition to come out.

Logos, an e-book publisher, continues to grow their collection everyday. Just these past few months, there has been at least three books I wanted to buy, and now are in the process of being published. Amazon has also become involved by developing the Kindle. Their goal is to get every book available on it. I would like to get one, but based on reviews it seems to be better to wait for the newer version.

Annotation on "Alaska: The Senator and the Oil Man" by NOW

I have only seen NOW once, yet my impression is that it has a liberal bent. The episode I watched was on the corrupt Alaskan Senator Ted Stevens, and didn't focus on Palin. I wonder if NOW would have edited their episode now, after finding out Palin is the GOP V.P. candidate for McCain.

A Cheating Gene?!

I caught this on the Today Show this morning. Before this came out, some Christians, such as myself, always suspected there was a lust gene anyway. Here's the video:

End of the Week Quote

If we are discouraged to learn, what history teaches, that the essence which we extract from art is perennially the creation of the culture that extracts it -- is in fact itself a part of history -- we can take courage. Knowledge of art is without doubt not only a luxury, a self -indulgence, and an unfailing joy -- though it is all these things -- it is knowledge, and very likely our deepest, most unguarded knowledge of humankind.
